About Jiangsu Nishijin Ori Silk Brocade

Each bag is created in Jiangsu Province in Eastern China where Brocade tradition has flourished in different styles. Nishijin Ori is amongst the finest types of Silk Brocade, known for its distinctive thickness and gold-like appeal. Despite being named after Kyoto¡¯s Nishijin district and widely featured in Japanese Obi, this silk weaving technique was actually exported to Japan from China only in the 5th Century A.D. Generally, the finished design for Nishijin Ori fabric is planned ahead by drawing the generally flowerlike patterns on a grid sheet. Multiple silk threads are then twisted and dyed according to the design and woven in a traditional Jacquard loom to give the typical thickness of the fabric and a golden glazed effect.
